Houston Engineering, Inc. - Leave Nothing To Chance

Reconstruction of Main Avenue
Fargo, North Dakota

Project Details:
The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is in the process of reconstructing I-29 through Fargo. The interchange at Main Avenue was changed substantially to accommodate lane reconfiguration. As part of this work, Main Avenue from 25th Street to 45th Street was reconstructed to account for geometric and safety deficiencies.

Houston Engineering was selected to provide preliminary surveying, the Environmental Assessment, and design for the reconstruction of Main Avenue (U.S. Highway 10). Houston teamed up with HWS Consulting Group to provide traffic operational analysis and design assistance.

The project scope included:

  • Aerial mapping and GPS ground surveys

  • Alternative analysis for five, six, and seven lane sections

  • Alternative analysis for frontage roads

  • Soliciting public participation and holding a Public Hearing

  • Environmental Assessment and environmental clearance (EA and FONSI)

  • Coordination and relocation of utilities

  • Construction design plans and specifications

Including the interchange, the total project was the largest single-season construction project ever undertaken and successfully completed by NDDOT.

Project Benefits:

  • Public involvement in road construction planning

  • Safer, more efficient travel along Main Avenue
