Main Avenue Utilities
Fargo, North Dakota
Project Details:
As part of this reconstruction of I-29 through Fargo, the North Dakota Department
of Transportation undertook the reconstruction of the interchange at Main Avenue
(U.S. Highway 10). The interchange design triggered an analysis of traffic needs
along Main Avenue from 25th Street to 45th Street. The project also required the
replacement of all substandard water and sewer mains prior to placing the new pavement.
Houston Engineering provided the preliminary surveying, Environmental Assessment,
and design for the initial project. HWS Consulting Group teamed up with Houston to
provide traffic operational analysis and design assistance.
Houston Engineering provided design and performed construction engineering services
for the water and sewer replacements on Fargo’s U.S. Highway 10/Main Avenue
reconstruction project. The project was divided into two portions, the west and east
sides, with two general contractors doing the work. Strata Corporation out of Grand
Forks completed the west side, while Master Construction of Fargo completed the east
side. Both projects included:
- Pavement installation
- Driveway
- Storm sewer
- Drainage
- Traffic signals
- Installation of water mains, manholes, and hydrants
- Other miscellaneous improvements
Project Benefits:
- New utilities that will support the city of Fargo for years to come
- Safer, more efficient travel along Main Avenue
